Charlie is my daughter who is going to be 30 in April 2010. This is a very important fact because a). 30 is getting on a bit in fertility years and b). because I have been waiting a long long time to be a grandma. Charlie has been doing the career thing so babies had been put on hold. She then announced 5 months ago that she and her partner were officially ' trying for a baby'
Great excitement all round. After 3 months I stopped asking ' how's it going darling?' not wanting to seem to be too desparate!
Then on night duty a few of weeks ago I noticed a missed call on my mobile phone. The problem is there is little reception where l work so the phone sits on a high window sill where sometimes it manages to receive a bar or two. Thinking there must be a problem for Charlie to ring me at work I stood on a chair , hanging out the window to return her call.
She said she had done a pregnancy test that morning which had shown negative. On her return from work she fished the test out of the bin and lo and behold there was a positive reading.
Holding my breath with excitement I said it was highly likely that she was pregnant as pregnancy tests , although they can give a false negative I had never heard of one giving a false positive. If the pregnancy hormone is present and high enough it will read positive.
I realyl do not know which of us was the more excited and emotional. When my colleague came in the room he was more than a little surprised to see me hanging out the window with tears in my eyes. Charlie was going to repeat the test in the morning.
The text came just as I was about to go off duty.
Positive again.
Charlie's mum is going to be a grandma!!!
